Changing behaviour through eLearning at World of Learning
The secrets of "achieving real behaviour change through eLearning" will be unveiled by Sponge at World of Learning 2018. Sponge’s Senior Learning Designer, Sam Yates, will present a seminar on the subject at Learning Design Live lounge from 14:00 to 14:30 on Tuesday 16 October 2018. The free to attend session is part of a series sponsored by the eLearning Network (eLN) and hosted by the World of Learning Conference & Exhibition at NEC Birmingham on 16 and 17 October 2018. The two-day conference provides learning professionals with in-depth advice and a forum for sharing ideas with other design specialists.
Sharing best practice from Sponge, one of Europe’s largest custom digital learning providers, Sam’s presentation highlights the importance of focusing on people, not just business outcomes; working in partnership with clients; and using creativity to inspire and engage. Her session includes real-life examples of Sponge’s people-first approach to learning, including how the Learning Technologies’ Company of the Year finalist partnered with a world-renowned pharmaceutical and diagnostics company to redesign its learning academy, delivering a framework for future success.
Drawing on her expertise in delivering learning programmes at Sponge, a three-year tenure as Mentoring Director of the eLN and more than eight years’ experience in eLearning, Sam shares practical tips, dos and don’ts and valuable advice on how to achieve behaviour change through eLearning.
Sam explains: “There is a tendency in our industry to focus on business outcomes over people, but learning must be inspiring and engaging if information is to be retained and new workplace practices embraced. As learning designers, we need to look beyond simple ‘click next’ training. By taking a people-first approach, adopting a variety of technologies and methodologies suited to individual needs, we can inspire people to be their best selves and, in doing so, meet desired business objectives and deliver enhanced organisational performance.
At Sponge, we focus on making sure that every solution we provide is seriously creative. We work in partnership with our clients to understand exactly what they need and how best to deliver it. By getting to the heart of our client’s needs we are able to tailor every solution to their unique requirements, blending learning techniques to truly meet both learner and business goals.”
Winner of Learning Designer of the Year in 2014, Sam has always been passionate about training and coaching others. She believes she “naturally gravitated” to her current role as Senior Learning Designer and a team leader at Sponge. She says of her expertise and interest in digital learning that it “just clicked”. It’s this thirst for people development that will see Sam support an ever-expanding team at Sponge.
